A perfect tool for scaffolding deeper understanding and analysis for Romeo and Juliet! This is my go-to tool for helping students process key details and providing regular reading quizzes without drowning myself in grading.
This Quiz Pack goes perfectly with any unit covering Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet. There are four 10 questions quizzes, one each for Act I, II, III, and a combined quiz for Acts IV & V. The questions are short answer. Each quiz has five quote identification questions for which students identify the speaker, paraphrase the quote, and explain the significance of the quote. Each quiz also has five literary term questions for which students identify the literary term at work in the quote, define the literary term, and then explain how the literary term impacts the play.
My classes take these quizzes right after reading each act (or acts, in the case of IV & V). In my classes, I allow students to use notes that they take as we read in class and enforce a 20 minute time limit. This keeps students accountable for the information as they do not have time to look up every quote. Most quizzes print on three pages. For the fourth page (with front-back copies), I copy a word search or crossword puzzle for those who finish early.
These may also work as study guides or review in preparation for a unit assessment at the end of the unit.
This quiz pack includes keys for each of the quizzes. When I grade these, each question is worth 3 points, 30 points possible per quiz. The keys show the three point breakdown for every question.
